Segmental Hand-dig Tunnel Project

Introduction (Segmental Hand-dig Tunnel)

Segmental tunneling is a method extremely suited to the urban areas where the shafts are too small for the conventional pipe jacking method. The system involves a shield head which is launched into the ground and segment rings followed close behind. The erection of the pre-frbricated segmental rings are done within the shield head. The spoil is excavated manually from the tunnel face and transferred to ground level to be disposed off site. Man access is required to erect the rings and as such the minimum size is usually 1200mm.
