Segmental tunneling is a method extremely suited to the urban areas where the shafts are too small for the conventional pipejacking method.
The systems involves a shield head which is launched into the ground.
The erection of the pre-fabricated segmental rings are done within the shield head. The spoil is excavated manually from the tunnel face and transferred to ground level to be disposed off site.
